I found this view of a hillside opposite Tiorati Brook in Stony Point, NY while trout fishing. This was an instance of the angle of the sunlight at a particular time of day and season of the year energizing a landscape that ordinarily you might not even notice. In this case, the particular interplay of time, light and landscape persisted for a week, allowing me to complete five paintings. Painting the same scene many times in this fashion permits you to know your subject and composition by heart, thus freeing you to be more direct in the execution.
